Ichi, Fumihiko Sori's take on Zatoichi

Ichi is Fumihiko Sori's upcoming reimagining of the Zatoichi story, this time with the beautiful Haruka Ayase in the lead as the blind swordswoman, and promises to be something very special indeed. Director Fumihiko Sori is the man behind the acclaimed Ping Pong, which had nominations (including best director) at the Japanese Academy Awards.

I absolutely loved Takeshi Kitano's version of Zatoichi, and Sori's film looks like it's going to add something different. It's definitely one of the films I'm most excited about seeing in 2008, and I'm sure there's a lot of other people who'll be interested in seeing it too. No release date for the UK and Ireland yet though.
