G.P. 506 - Two words: Korean Zombies.

Yes a Korean zombie film, could there be anything cooler? G.P. 506 is promising exactly that, and it's looking like one hell of a good film so far. Director Su-chang Kong's previous effort R-Point was a competent, if not entirely brilliant or original ghost story, but I enjoyed it none the less.

The South Korean film industry has been pumping out some spectacular films in the past decade, many of which have been firmly cemented as masterpieces or instant classics to my mind. Oldboy, Save The Green Planet, and Memories Of Murder for example. Korean horrors haven't offered up as many classics though, often fairly by-the-numbers ghost stories.

Thankfully, there seems to be a will to break out of this formulaic rut, and offer up something a bit more interesting. 2006's The Host was a much needed breath of fresh air, and with G.P. 506 it seems like there's a further step away from the numerous Ring-alike horrors.

Here's a teaser trailer to whet your appetites. It doesn't give too much away:

The plot concerns Guard Point 506, where an entire squad of soldiers have been killed in mysterious circumstances, bar one survivor who's in a coma. Military Investigators are dispatched to the base, and discover they're dealing with a virus that turns humans into ravenous flesh-eating killers! The film is coming out in Korean cinemas this April, so it'll be a while before the rest of the world gets to see it, but I'm really looking forward to this one.

Here's some stills from the film:

This looks really cool. But why couldn't they have chosen a better title?! What a way of hindering your chances before you even start

I didn't think there was anything particularly wrong with the title.

Hi,
Stumbled here when surfing for GP560. Have you watched Korean movies such as Raging Years and Tazza ? I feel they are good movies, which I don't see listed in your list.

I've not Sy Huang, but I see Raging Years is from the same director as Chihwaseon. Interesting. I'll put them on my to do list.

You can watch 3 trailers for Raging Years at http://movie.daum.net/movieInfo?mkey=38780&mode=5

and for War of Flowers (aka High Rollers or Tazza) at http://movie.daum.net/movieInfo?mkey=41442&mode=5

In fact, if you can get the movie's name in Korean character, just add these 3 words 예고편 (means 'trailer') in your Google search and you will be able to hit upon such trailer links.
