So, the masterful filmmaker David Cronenberg is in talks to direct an adaptation of Robert Ludlum's The Matarese Circle, starring Denzel Washington. (I came across this over on /film, which is a great site, well worth checking out.)
This, dear readers, could be very good indeed. I absolutely loved Cronenberg's recent films Eastern Promises and A History of Violence, he's as on the ball now as he's ever been but in a different way. Now as /film ponders that Viggo Mortensen might be cast, I just have to get more than a little excited about this. The idea of actors the calibre of Denzel and Viggo working together is pretty eyebrow raising, don't you agree?
For me, I don't think that David Cronenberg has made a film that didn't at least capture my attention and imagination, he's an absolutely terrific director. One thing that has me especially excited about the prospects of him doing a spy thriller like this is what he's going to do with action scenes, because the bath house fight in Eastern Promises was by far a lot more thrilling and memorable than any of the messy fights that were on show in the Bourne trilogy.
Yep, this could be amazing.
